Lukwa declares Central Region vote for Chakwera

Senior Chief Lukwa of Kasungu has declared that the Central Region vote belongs to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) presidential candidate Lazarus Chakwera, urging Chewa chiefs and their subjects to rally behind him in next year’s elections.

Speaking in Kasungu during the elevation of 13 traditional leaders, presided over by Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda, Lukwa said all Chewa chiefs in the region, with the blessing of Chewa leader Kalonga Gawa Undi, have agreed to support Chakwera for another term.

He also pledged that the chiefs will back MCP candidates in both parliamentary and local government polls.

“Chakwera has ruled for five years while others, in their families, have ruled for 12 or even 14 years. Will it be wise for the Central Region to vote for those who have ruled longer? We must give all our votes to Chakwera and work to ensure every vote in the region counts for him,” said Lukwa, calling on newly elevated chiefs to join the campaign.

Chimwendo Banda urged chiefs to champion peace, unity, education, and the fight against early marriages and harmful cultural practices. He also warned against abuse of relief items, stressing the need for integrity and fair distribution.

Of the 13 elevated leaders, two are now Senior Chiefs, seven are Traditional Authorities (T/As), and four are Sub T/As.
